Subject to conditions prescribed by the University of California, Los Angeles, sealed bids for a lump-sum contract are invited from prequalified prime contractors.
Upgrade CHS Parking Structure "E" (PS-E) from a "poor" to "good" PSE seismic rating. The scope shall include without limitation the construction of a concrete shear wall to be adhered to the south facade of the existing parking structure. The new shear wall shall be supported with a new footing composed of pile cap and concrete piles. The scope also includes providing new concrete drag beams extending from the shear wall and capturing the remaining south surface of the parking structure. To provide access for construction, a utility yard shall be removed and the equipment shall require relocation and be put back to original operating conditions after construction. The Project is a green-roofed building integrated into the landscape of the Court of Sciences. The building shall replace the obsolete “Bombshelter” located on the same site. The new building shall contain an indoor dining room, a small store, a coffee/yogurt kiosk and 4 kitchen concepts: the tenant improvement work for 2 kitchens shall be performed as Work of this Contract while the tenant improvement work for the remaining 2 kitchens shall be by Separate Contractor(s). The scope of Work includes: demolition of the existing structure, landscape and hardscape; site shoring, excavation, grading and compaction; demolition of existing utilities, rerouting of selected existing utilities (including steam, condensate, natural gas, clear water waste, compressed air electrical and telecom conduit, to Boyer Hall) while maintaining existing utility service; provision of new steam, electricity, chilled waste, sewer lines and communication conduit to the site; construction of the new concrete building including exterior waterproofing, rooftop landscaping and hardscaping, on-grade landscaping and hardscaping, interior finishes, deferred approval fire alarms and sprinklers, tenant improvement for (2) University-run kitchens (some equipment is OFCI), possible coordination with (2) Separate Contractors, each responsible for the tenant improvement of one third-party vendor kitchen; LEED® certification paperwork; LEED® prerequisite and enhanced commissioning.

The Young Research Library 1st Floor Renovation is a 39,740 gsf project including the demolition of existing interior improvements and asbestos and lead abatement; provision of room partitions, doors, interior glazing, ceilings, lighting, casework, window treatments, signage and finishes; modification of existing mechanical, electrical, lighting and plumbing systems; provision of a security system; provision of data and AV conduit and boxes (without cable or equipment, typical); provision of complete AV systems in three rooms (including cabling; equipment, programming, training and warranty, etc.). Work on the building’s exterior includes new entry doors, a curtain wall at the main entrance, and relocation of the building’s FDC. The Project includes seismic anchoring of all furniture over 42” tall. The construction sequence requires the existing service counter and cashiering office to remain functional until the new service counter and cashiering office are occupied. The new front doors and curtain wall shall be installed while maintaining building access, egress and security. The Work of this Project shall receive a LEED® rating.

The construction of the Sproul Complex & Sproul West Residence Hall includes approximately 291,500 gross square feet of new Type 1B construction and consists of two residential towers, a 750-seat dining facility with requisite kitchen, food preparation and storage facilities. A Fitness Center, Multi-Purpose Room, Meeting Rooms and renovation of Housing Maintenance space is included. The Sproul South building will be a six-story residence hall constructed on top of a new three-story Sproul Complex and contains 298 beds. Sproul West is a nine-story building located just east of the existing Rieber Hall Building and contains 406 beds. The Sproul construction package includes demolition of the Office of Residential Life Building and a portion of Sproul Hall totaling approximately 10,000 gsf. Construction shall be on a confined site requiring extensive shoring, and includes mat and spread foundation footings, concrete structural frame, exterior cladding consisting of a “rain screen” waterproofing system with cement fiber and steel panels, aluminum windows and window wall system, steel framed roof structures, and related mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. The new buildings shall be constructed to meet the LEED® New Construction version 2.2 “Silver” green building requirements. The Sproul package is currently anticipated to be constructed between January 2010 and January 2013. The subterranean addition shall accommodate modern locker rooms and team support facilities on the lower level, and a multi-purpose meeting facility seating 300 people on the upper level. The entry concourse shall accommodate a new main lobby and ticket offices, and provide improved access to public restrooms, concessions and arena seating. The renovation scope of work shall include upgrades and replacement of major equipment and distribution components of Pauley’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; provision of building lighting, equipment and environmental control systems; installation of life safety systems including new fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, a smoke evacuation system, emergency generator, and fire command center; code-required structural upgrades for assembly occupancies; hazardous materials abatement; landscape and paving improvements; restroom and concession improvements and new sports flooring.
